Phil Jackson, sensing the team’s lack of concentration, put the players through an extended practice Saturday just hours after arriving home
from Minnesota.

“No kidding. Did I say that out loud?” Pau Gasol said, definitely out loud.

“I hope so,” Gasol said, evoking more laughter.

“No we worked on some things offensively, how Portland plays defense, the way they set up,” he added. “They force you to do different
things, so we worked on that. Their plays, and got in some shooting also.

The Lakers wrapped up the Western Conference title Friday with a victory against the Timberwolves and have three games remaining, two against teams that have been eliminated from playoff contention. After Sunday’s game against Portland, they play Sacramento and the Clippers at home.

But that doesn’t mean the Lakers get to take off the rest of the regular season. At least not according to Jackson’s rules.

“It’s our job to really compete, to uphold our end of the bargain,” he said. “We’re not going to give any game away to anybody that’s
been struggling all season. So were going to come out and compete against Portland like we should and the other games …. we’ll play those
games depending on how we do and how the players are doing.
“我們的工作就是真實的競爭，就是完善最後的比賽，”他說。“我們不會放棄任何比賽，我們為了勝利已經奮鬥了整個賽季。因此我們會像平常一樣全力對陣開拓者，我們會依據球隊和隊員狀況決定如何比賽。”
“Hopefully we’ll have some momentum and play the kind of minutes that we like to play to keep in rhythm.”

Jackson said he doesn’t think any player will skip the remaining games. Kobey Bryant, who didn’t play at Denver or Minnesota because of
swelling in his right knee, is expected to play against Portland.

Ron Artest and Shannon Brown are nursing hand injuries, while Lamar Odom has a sore shoulder, leaving Pau Gasol and Derek Fisher with heavy minutes.

“I don’t think any of them want to take it off and I don’t see any reason to force the issue,” Jackson said.

Gasol turned serious when asked if he hoped Jackson would spread out the minutes in the remaining three games.

“That’s up to the coaching staff,” he said. “I think the coaching staff will want to share the minutes and get our bench guys to play
more minutes and the starters to play a few less minutes.”
