後人對於後腦杓長臉的男子Edward Mordake樣貌的認知，在他死後很久才重現在逼真的蠟像上。 Edward Mordake是一位英國有名望貴族的繼承人，相貌英俊，極具個人魅力及學識涵養，他同時是一名學者身兼音樂家，人生中一切都那麼完美…除了後腦杓的那張臉。有些傳聞說他背後的臉醜惡且嚇人，也有美麗少女的臉之說。
美國歌手Tom Waits的歌曲《Poor Edward》唱的就是Edward Mordake的故事：
Did you hear the news about Edward? 你聽說過愛德華的故事嗎？
On the back of his head he had another face 在他後腦勺還有另一張臉
Was it a woman's face or a young girl? 那是女人還是少女的臉孔？

And took poor Edward to hell 帶著可憐的愛德華前往地獄
Edward Mordake的生平在民間流傳，或許細節並不盡然是事實，流傳超過1世紀之後的故事已經成了今天的都市傳說。依現今科學推論，後腦杓的「邪惡雙胞胎」是寄生雙胞胎的案例，醫學史上曾紀錄過好幾起。
