China saidThursday it would resolutely oppose any military provocation in its territorialwaters, remarks which appeared to be directed at the United States, Vietnam andthe Philippines.

The Philippines saidThursday it was committed to "defuse the tension" with China over adisputed shoal, despite the continued presence of Chinese ships in the area.

"While we continue toassert our sovereignty over (the shoal) and sovereign rights over the waterssurrounding it, we are committed to defusing the tension in the area throughdiplomatic discussions and consultations," Department of Foreign AffairsRaul Hernandez said in a statement.

China should just go home leave the Shoal and other islands and instead attend to its domestic affairs. China cannot claim the Shoal and other islands near the Phils. by stating they discover them from ancient dynasty. It doesn't make any sense.

I don't know about the Philippines but Vietnam is the next rising star in asia; militarily and economically. With abundant of young educated work force, natural resources, and cheap labor. It's an alternative to China that's why the U.S is in the region to protect its interest. Not only the U.S interested in Vietnam but also China. China keeps sending their high ranking (military) officials to Vietnam to kiss the Vietnamese butts all the time. Vietnam is a country that will give you a run for your money.

From the article, it sounds like China is basically saying they own everything around them up to every other country's shoreline because it "may" have gas deposits. China needs to be reminded that "May = May Not". And with a population of 1 billion mouths to feed, the last thing I would be concerned with is destroying oceanic habitats of Chinese food sources for the sake of "possible, but remotely," finding gas.
