今天 在看影集 無意間看到這一句

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

"我覺得, 那女人太急著解釋了."

is a quotation from the 1602 play Hamlet by William Shakespeare.

"Protest too much" is to insist so passionately about something not being true that people suspect the opposite of what you are saying.

Protest too much 是指 積極堅決否定某一件事 讓人起疑是否口是心非


For example

A:"You do really crush on her, don't you?"

B:"No! I don't! Not at all! Why do you think so?"

A: "You protest too much."


A:你真的很喜歡她,不是嗎?

B:沒! 我哪有阿! 我並沒有阿! 你為什麼會那麼想?

A:你解釋太多了!!



By the way, "methinks" is from Old English,which mean "It seems to me."

methinks 是古英語 意思是 以我看來

我覺得methinks說起來還滿好玩的 不過說多了 就感覺有點"假掰".
